Granny’s Monkey Bread Recipe

Granny’s Monkey Bread is a warm, gooey cinnamon sugar pull-apart bread made with refrigerated biscuit dough. Every bite is coated in buttery caramel, making this comforting family favorite perfect for breakfast, brunch, holidays, or dessert.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

24 ounces refrigerated biscuit dough (3 packages, 8 ounces each)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (or pumpkin pie spice)

16 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup packed golden brown sugar

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Generously grease a 12-cup Bundt pan with butter.

2. Separate the biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into four bite-sized pieces.

3. Combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl or resealable bag.

4. Coat each biscuit piece thoroughly in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place them evenly into the prepared Bundt pan.

5. In a small saucepan, melt the butter with the brown sugar and 1/2 cup of the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture until just bubbling. Stir until smooth, then remove from the heat.

6. Pour the warm butter mixture evenly over the coated biscuit pieces.

7. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center reaches 190°F.

8. Allow the monkey bread to rest for 5 minutes.

9. Invert onto a serving plate and serve warm by pulling apart the pieces with your fingers.

Notes

Prepare the recipe the night before, cover, refrigerate, and bake the next morning.

Grease the Bundt pan generously to prevent sticking.

If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover with foil while finishing the bake.

For extra flavor, add chopped pecans or walnuts between the biscuit layers.

Serve warm for the best gooey texture.
